Summary

After the massive success of the previous year's Global Invitational, Spacestation Gaming (SSG) came back to us to do it all again, bigger and better. Now with more tickets sold and 120,000 square feet of floor space to fill.

Challenge

This year would be a massive step up from the previous year's Global Invitational, with a much larger tournament and a venue triple the combined size of the previous year's venues. We wanted to retain the immersive quality of the previous year's event, but this time in a space with 40' ceilings.

We also wanted to give attendees more to do with their time. We had already exceeded expectations with the number of activities and activations the previous year, but with nobody's record to beat but our own, we nevertheless wanted to rise above what we'd done before.

Solutions

We could no longer rely on laser prints to fill our cavernous new venue, so we instead looked to projection mapping. a series of 14 connected projectors played 2 looping 3D animations that we created to give the space an artificial horizon and immerse attendees in the world.

We also created 15 different activities and activations to keep fans entertained between the games on stage.

Results

The fan experience at the event was stellar. Attendance was higher was above projections and merchandise sales dwarfed even the previous year's numbers. Unfortunately much of the online discourse revolved around stability issues with the game itself, but any mention of the venue or attendee experience was glowing.
